Late
July 2003
Having
been away for a week, I noticed the change right away, the
Buddleia, Loosestrife and Teasel in full bloom.
I've
been able to observe changes over several years, particularly in
the small spillway field I visit frequently - just west of the
Demott Lane bridge. As this field evolves (I think it's not more
than 6 years since the spillway was re-created here), various
plants struggle to find their place, competing with one another
- and the ratios change from year to year. Visiting this field
is a must for any who can, just to witness its vitality and the
wealth and variety of organisms - nurtured by the occasional
overflow of the Raritan river.
